League Format - Details of Stableford game

13 Dec 2020 by AmyG

The CBCC Ladies’ 18 Hole League plays a modified version of the game called “Stableford”, a game of points, rather than strokes. Some league members maintain a handicap and/or use a golf app and know their “max” strokes per hole — others do not — it’s all good! The total strokes in a round, in the Stableford game, is irrelevant – however, it is essential to write the strokes for each player on each hole so that points can be verified and tallied (or an X if they pick up – picking up is encouraged to maintain pace of play – 4-hour target). Follow USGA rules and play the ball “down” (as it lies), holing out (no gimmees, kicking/moving/exchanging balls, etc.) when scoring a hole — or declare yourself “out of the points” on any given hole if you intend to (or have) broken a rule.

Our Stableford game awards 1 point for bogey, 2 points for par, 4 points for birdie, 8 points for eagle according to the course established pars from the red tees; with one exception. Holing out on Lakes 5 in 6 strokes = 1 pt; 5 strokes = 2pts; 4 strokes = 4pts, 3 strokes = 8pts. Each week, each player is playing towards achieving or exceeding their established total points in the round. The kitty is divided equitably according to total points exceeded.

The first player listed in the foursome is responsible for keeping points scored for the foursome, collecting (and turning in) the money, and assigning another player to keep a second card of points scored. DON’T WORRY – there is at least one player in each foursome that understands and can explain all of this!

Just come out, play your game, be kind and have fun!!!
